What Else to Do During and After the Market? There is a 'Fur and Feather' Sale each Saturday morning and a general auction sale in the old livestock market right next to the retail market place where the Farmers' Market is held - (just be careful when scratching your nose, or you may go home with more than you bargained for!). Light refreshments are available. The Paramount Cinema is the home of the famous Crompton Organ with recitals being given frequently on Saturday afternoons - see the link on the Links Page There are a number of country pubs serving food in the area, so you should be able to find somewhere to eat, and the Vicarage Tea Rooms opposite the church on Shrewsbury Road is great for snacks and meals also after a busy morning at the market. Pot House Hamlet in Silkstone is also worth a look with lots to do for all the family. The Trans-Pennine Trail runs right through the heart of Penistone and provides fantastic walking - just a short stroll, a longer walk, or a serious 'hike' are all possible. Cannon Hall is just a few miles towards Barnsley offering fun for all the family, and 'Last of the Summer Wine' country - Holmfirth - is just a short car ride away. As you can see, there are plenty of things to do both in and around Penistone. So there are even more reasons to make the trip to the market!! |
